seven saves by @youlikemodernart
Intoxicated by light, drunk on seeing
Hello friends,
This week I read, or skimmed, a beautiful passage by Paul Tillich. But this newsletter is not yet for me to share the musings of what I read. What came to mind as I flipped through my Instagram saved posts was not this passage, but an awareness of what light does and how it feels. These images and videos, some "real", some not, all speak to this feeling I sometimes get from light and from seeing: of being overwhelmed. There is a charge and also a flattening that is felt when I observe some true beauty. These images share a general feeling of brightness, flash, color, that charged feeling, but also the feeling of flatness, of being flattened: face pressed up against the glass, torso to the ground to squeeze under or around some tight space. There is something there, as Tillich put it; "we unite with what we see." A closeness, an intimacy, a unification.
Or, as Jaydah puts it in the caption of our first post today: Sometimes I just don't have the words.
Sending love,
Noah
